Carnelian (sometimes spelled cornelian) is a vibrant brownish-red mineral that belongs to the chalcedony family, a variety of silica. Often heat treated to boost colour, ours is not tampered with.
Its name is likely derived from the Latin word carnis, meaning flesh, due to its characteristic deep orange and red hues. Used since the Neolithic era, it was highly valued in Ancient Egypt for amulets and was largely associated with goddess Isis and formed "sun disks" of numerous other gods and goddesses and in Rome for signet rings, as hot wax does not stick to its smooth surface.
Often referred to spiritually as the "Stone of Motivation", "The Merchant's Stone" or "The Artist's Stone" it is believed to enhance creativity, courage, and self-confidence while dispelling apathy.
